Mixed prints and Crop tops

My rules for mixing prints are simple:

• Like Colors 
• Like Patterns 
• Like Sizes 

If your patterns fit two of these rules, your safe to mix! Of course, with art there are no rules, but consider this a starting point. In the pieces I chose, we have two different stripes, both with white back grounds. So we have like patterns, and like colors.  

Look 1: Brunch 

This beautiful skirt is another vintage gem handmade by my grandmother. But I found some that you could create similar looks with at Lord and Taylor, Neiman Marcus, and She-Fashions. The high waisted silhouette is just right for pairing modestly with this top. Keep in mind that this could also be worn to work with a blazer or cardigan. 

 I decided to take a risk by adding a touch of contrasting pink into the mix. Even though there’s a lot going on, I think it works because all of the pieces are in classic, streamlined shapes. I used the pink watch to add balance by bringing the color all the way through the outfit, instead of focusing it in one spot. 

Look 2: Baseball 

 I wanted to transition this look into something I could take my kids to baseball practice in later in the afternoon. So I threw my white shortalls on over my crop top, and pulled on these cute Steven madden sneakers.  

I’m still mixing prints with the black and white striped top, and the black and white speckled sneakers, but in a more subdued way. And the coveralls hide any skin that may normally be peeking out of the top.

Spring Tux

Today I got a little creative and tested out my own version of the ever popular denim on denim trend, also known as the Canadian tuxedo. 

 I started by deciding to style these vintage white short-alls I found at church garage sale last summer. You can find similar ones at Volcom, Asos, and Forever21. I like the mid-length on these because it keeps them modest, but still flattering for my legs. 

 I tucked in a chambray button down from my favorite charity shop, and pulled on my keds for an easy and fun spring look.

A Casual and Chic Sabbath

  Had a beautiful Sunday service today. I got to solo one of my favorite songs “Worn” by Tenth Avenue North. 

It’s just starting to get warm here and I couldn’t wait to break out the maxi skirt and sandals.  I started with this gorgeous black mesh pleated maxi skirt. One of my favorite vintage treasures, this was handmade my beautiful grandmother. But you can find similar ones at Forever 21, Urban Outfitters ,and New Look . I tucked this classic black and white striped top into it. The pattern adds interest to the outfit, while keeping it simple and chic. 

 I finished it off with some black and gold plated minimalist sandals, a few gold bangles, and a swipe of my favorite red lipstick. Have a wonderful week everyone!
